Batieste Jr., Arthur A retired mechanic, he died at his home as a result of Hurricane Katrina. He was 78, a U.S. Army veteran and a resident and native of New Orleans. Funeral service at Rhodes United Fidelity, 2929 Scenic Highway, on Monday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. Interment in Providence Memorial Park. He is survived by his son, Gary M. Batieste Sr.; daughters, Wanda Batieste Canty-Lewis and Sharel Batieste Ervin; companion, Beatrice Thompson; sister, Delores Batieste Howard; three grandchildren, Marc T. Canty Jr., Ryan L. Ervin and Gary Batieste Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Marc III, Marquel and Damarco Canty. He was a member of Young Men Olympia Social and Pleasure Club and Mount Bethel Baptist Church in New Orleans. Published in The Advocate on 10/2/2005. He was a retired mechanic.
